Sony Bravia KDL-55XBR8 Review

The Sony Bravia KDL-55XBR8 is a 55-inch HD LCD television. It has a 1080p resolution (1920×1080), the best resolution which allows it to accept any HDTV signal and display it optimally. It is also Full HD, which means it comes with a built-in HDTV tuner. The KDL-55XBR8 has many other excellent points, leading many to believe that it is one of the best LCD HDTVs ever produced.

For one, the KDL-55XBR8 has a TRILUMINOS RGB Dynamic LED backlight. This alone sets it apart from most LCD televisions, which have a fluorescent backlight. This contributes to more accurate colors, particularly darker and deeper blacks and brighter whites, which, in turn, give images more depth and detail, as well as a third dimension. LEDs last longer than fluorescent lights, too, which means your KDL-55XBR8 will have a long life.

Aside from the fact that it uses LEDs – which consume less electricity – the KDL-55XBR8 is also one of the first Sony HDTVs with a Home/Store option. Choosing the Home option allows you to save more electricity in line with its Energy Star 3.0 compliance. You can cut down your energy consumption by limiting the peak brightness in two easy steps, too.

The Sony Bravia KDL-55XBR8 has an impressive design, as well, with a glossy black frame and side-mounted black, vertical speakers which appear to be suspended in space because of its transparent panels. If you don’t like black speakers, you can always change the look of your HDTV by buying a pair of alternate-color grilles, which are available in silver, gold, red and brown colors. You can also turn off the illuminated Sony logo on the frame if it distracts you.

As for connectivity options, the KDL-55XBR8 has four HDMI inputs – three on the back and one on the side – where you can plug in your Blu-Ray player, game console and cable or satellite TV box. There is a PC input for computers that do not have high-end video cards, as well, so you can use the HDTV as your computer monitor. The KDL-55XBR8 even has a USB port so you can share the picture and music files on your flash drive.

The best thing about the Sony Bravia KDL-55XBR8, though, is its excellent picture quality – the result of various high-end systems and the latest technologies. One such technology is the Digital Reality Creation technology, which is used by the Bravia Engine 2 Pro system to render sharp, crystal clear images. Another is the Live Color Creation technology, which refines colors to deliver a more realistic picture.

The KDL-55XBR8 is also equipped with the Motionflow 120Hz PRO technology which reduces blurring and visual flickering for more fluid motions while the Dynamic Video Noise Reduction technology reduces unwanted elements for a clearer signal. It has a 10-bit processor and a 10-bit panel, as well, which create and display billions of colors while paving the way for smooth color transitions. All these combine to give you breathtaking images and an amazing picture quality that’s almost unbelievable.

Of course, the Sony Bravia KDL-55XBR8 has some weak points, too, like the fact that it has a relatively large remote control with too many buttons, many of which are not even for the HDTV. This can be inconvenient for some people, especially those who like being able to operate the remote control with one hand and without looking at it. The Cross Media Bar menu is just as complicated, too. The biggest con of this otherwise perfect HDTV, though, is the price. Indeed, the KDL-55XBR8 costs $4,000 to $6,000 – a steep price to pay for one making the switch to HDTV but one worth paying for those with the budget.

The cheapest camera you will find from GE is the A730 for under one hundred dollars. This camera does not have a favorable review from users who thought the 7 megapixel, three times optical zoom would be a great camera for the price. The picture image is not always clear.

The GE digital camera reviews for the GE E1040 are somewhat favorable for a camera just under two hundred dollars.
